Overview of Voting and Initial Controversies.
Maharashtra MLC Election Voting for the eleven seats in the Maharashtra Legislative Council was held today, and the counting started an hour after the voting ended. The process was marked by some controversy, particularly when Shiv Sena, UPT, and Congress raised objections to the vote of a BJP MLA.
Election Results and Milind Narvekar’s Surprising Victory.
The election results for all eleven seats of the Maharashtra Legislative Council have been announced. Among these, the most surprising outcome was the victory of Milind Narvekar. Despite being considered in a difficult position regarding vote count, Uddhav Thackeray’s party candidate Milind Narvekar emerged victorious. He received twenty-two first preference votes, whereas Jain Patil of Chhekari Kamgar Paksha lost the election.
BJP’s Dominant Performance.
All five BJP candidates won their seats in this election. Pankaja Munde, Amitesh, and others managed to secure victories in the first round of counting itself. To be elected, candidates needed twenty-three first preference votes. All four BJP candidates received 2626 first preference votes each. BJP’s fifth candidate, Sada Bhav Khote, received 14 first preference votes but won due to a significant number of second preference votes.
Success of NCP and Shiv Sena Candidates.
Both NCP candidates secured their seats based on first preference votes, with Bhavna Gawli getting 24 votes and Kripal Tumane 25 votes. Shiv Sena’s candidate, Raj and Shivaji Rao Gay of the Shinde faction, also won with 24 votes. From the Mahavikas Aghadi, Congress candidate Pragya Satav received 25 votes, while Milind Narvekar got 22 first preference votes. Jain Wal, who was initially a strong contender, received only 12 votes and lost the election. Initially, it was believed that Congress votes might be transferred to Jain Patil. However, at the last moment, Congress changed its strategy and ensured Narvekar’s victory by directing votes in his favor instead of Patil.
This surprising turn of events, particularly with Uddhav Thackeray’s party candidate Milind Narvekar winning despite earlier uncertainties, marks a significant moment in Maharashtra’s political landscape.
